Offense Strugles as New York Loses ILCS in Six

The NUKES 2001 Weaver Cup dreams ended Tuesday night in disappointing fashion as the Amity White Sharks defeated New York by a final score of 6-2 in Game Six of the Inferno League Championship Series. After game four it looked as though the NUKES were ready to go in for the kill, with Randy Johnson having shut out the Sharks in his second start of the series. If the NUKES could claim just one of the next two games, Amity, winners of 127 games during the regular season, would be faced with the grim reality of going up against The Big Unit one more time in a do-or-die Game Seven. Unfortunately for New York fans, the White Sharks never had to deal with that scenario, making easy work of the NUKES in Games Five and Six.

While most of the NUKES proud players weren't ready to admit it immediately after the game, most fans agreed that the team had a relatively successful season considering where it looked like it was headed in May. With it's pitching staff practically held together with duct tape, the NUKES found themselves in last place for the first time since the franchise relocated to New York. Management decided to made a trade with London for starting pitchers Tom Gordon and Lord Byron II. The trade seemed to pull the team together and the team rocketed from the cellar to first place in the Lockwood Division, holding off Phoenix and L.A. to take the division for the fourth time in five season! The NUKES dramatic turnaround ended all talk of Don Baylor's days as manager being numbered. Sources tell the Times that Baylor will be offered a contract extension during the offseason that will keep the only manager the franchise has known in the fold for the forseable future.
