BORA BORA (AP) - The crying hasn't stopped in French Polynesia. (Editor's Note: THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!) After a heartbreak season which featured 120 wins, but one too few of the Pennant, the Bora Bora Surfriders came home to a hero's welcome.

GM Sean Uezu was quoted as he walked off the plane, "If I'm not mistaken, my Surfriders set an all-time record in total bases stolen. We may not have brought home a Pennant, but this season wasn't a total dissapointment." Bora Bora actually shattered the previous record of 359 by the Hong Kong Dragons in 2015 by swiping 416 bases this year. Leading the way were Dick Simpson, Jermaine Dye and Sam Thomas who all swiped at least 70 bases each.

In addition, our Surfriders had three 20-game winners and a 19-game winner. Mike Castro, who announced his retirement after the game, will sorely be missed by the young Bora Bora surfrider staff. This sure-fire 1st ballot Hall-of-Famer put up a tough Cy Young battle with a great season: 26-5 w/ a 1.32 ERA. Hopefully Johnny "J-Hubs" Hubbel will be able to build on this break-through season and carry the staff next year. He will have massive shoes to fill with Castro's departure.

Joey Monk won the Barnes MVP with a strong 2nd half performance. He missed the 40-40 club by 2 homers. This was the first MVP for Bora Bora, but as a franchise this is the 9th MVP overall. Monk has finally lived up to the big expectation ever since he was acquired by 5-time MVP Ed Santos.

It was a little dissapointing season overall for the Surfriders, but 2017 doesn't look too bad. There were retirements by Castro and Jermaine Dye, but most of the core will be back and it doesn't appear too many key players will be testing free agency this year.
