BOMBAY (AP) - With the Polanski Division crown well in hand, Bombay Elephants Manager Mahatma Ghandi and 2nd year team owner Greg Chun decided it was time to reward a lifelong Elephant. “We’re bringing up SS Garwa Karnool to our playoff roster as a token of respect to his 19 years as an Elephant” said Ghandi. “Old Man River” as he’s affectionately called by his younger teammates in New Delhi will get another chance at a Weaver Series Ring. “I wasn’t on the playoff roster the last time Bombay made the playoffs,” said Karnool, “so this is especially sweet for an old timer like me.”

Elephant veterans couldn’t agree more. Current starting shortstop, and good friend Nathan Frias had this to say. “Garwa never was the fastest or the strongest guy out there, but his knowledge of the game is astounding to me even to this day. There are times when I’m in a hitting slump, that he’ll call me up and point out certain things that I’m doing wrong, and he’ll be dead on. He’s certainly helped our younger players develop into better players.”

This encyclopedic knowledge and his great rapport with younger players is why he has a standing offer as the manager for Bombay’s low minor team in Kashmir. “I feel blessed to have the opportunity to have played this game for so many years” said Karnool. “I look forward to giving back to this organization that has given so much to me over the past 19 years. But who knows, if this is my last year or not. I might just play until I’m 45.” Said Karnool with a smirk. Elephant fans can only hope.
