LONG BEACH (AP) - In a move the apparently contradicts their recent youth movement, the Long Beach Lobsters today acquired All-Timer first baseman George Sisler and All-Star catcher Chris Goodwin, as well as relief pitcher Willie Hutchinson from the Johannesburg Steelmen in exchange for catcher Ed Thomas, shortstop Lep Kauffman, and pitching prospect Eduardo Clark, first base prospect Justin Hartley and second base prospect De La Maza.

According to team owner Ken Paplanus, this move fits right into the team's plan. "Our deep young talent base has and will allow us to pick and choose deals to add the right veteran mix to our roster. You do not pass up an opportunity to add a quality hitter like George Sisler to the roster. Add to that the all around play of Chris Goodwin, and our young hitters can really learn a lot from these guys first hand."

While the team definitely plans on the duo being around for several season, the owner wasted little time locking the duo into new lifetime deals. George Sisler will become co-hitting coach immediately while he is still playing, and will continue that role after he leaves the field. Chris Goodwin will work to mentor the young catchers on the roster while he plays, and will become the head of the minor league development when he leaves the game.

However, both are very excited about the team as they look to surprise a few people in 2018. Skipper Mike Castro comments, "Look at our 2018 potential lineup. With Clarkson, Hinsley, Goodwin. Sisler, Mulrooney, Haberer, Williams and Evans in the top 8. That is exciting. Couple that with the core of great young arms that pitching coach Christy Matthewson is working with and the presence of Hutch in mentoring a few of our relievers... Man, I am excited! This season as been one of growing pains and injuries. In the end we as an organization are excited in the steps we are taking."
