PORTLAND (AP) - Not since Marcelino Reams of the Bombay Elephants has a young player come out of the amatuer draft with as high expectations as Carlos Guillen of the Portland Scalpers. Straight out of the draft, he looked to be a can't miss player, sporting 65+ ratings in CH, SP, and FA at SS. However, with defensive stallwart Benji Gil at SS, Guillen will have to adapt to playing 2B.

With a great off season that saw his CH increase 7 and his PH increasing 6, the sky seems to be the limit for the 22 year old phenom. He will also sure up a leadoff spot that was shared by 3 different players last season.

Owner and GM Robert Wyatt had this to say, "We are extremely excited with Guillen. We made a lot of moves last season to get young and fast, and Carlos is a direct result of that. However, we aren't done yet. We have the number 1 pick in the amatuer draft, and we will be looking to pick up another high impact player or a power pitcher to be our ace in the future."

However, when asked about the Mel Ott deal not paying off, Wyatt smashed the camera and walked off screaming, "This interview is over!"

All in all Guillen is definitely the impact player for this season, but he is joined by 4 pitchers who will be in the minors for at least 2 or 3 seasons. We'll just have to see how these kids pan out.
