DETROIT (AP) - The Motown Miracles, in an attempt to contend this year, are making moves starting at the top as Manager Dave Stewart has been shown the door. After a mediocre six seasons with Motown, he has finally fallen out of favor with Owner Tony Robles after making some comments to the Detroit media regarding Mr. Robles' handling of the Cy Young situation three years ago.

You may remember that Cy Young exploded at a sports memorabilia show in Detroit after being heckled by a fan regarding his inability to win the Cy Young Award. Mr. Robles used his extensive influence with the Mayor of Detroit to get Cy Young out of trouble with basically nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Rumor has it that Mr. Robles paid off the victims so that they wouldn't take Cy to court. Stewart felt that Young should have been punished and not allowed to play for the team the next season, but he was overruled by Robles and tensions had been simmering ever since.

To replace Stewart, Robles hired former Major League manager Billy Martin. Martin, who has been pretty quiet the last few years while being dead, will try to put some UUMPH! into a team that has the talent to contend but never has. When reached for comment, Billy said that he was extremely excited at the prospect of bringing Billy Ball to Detroit, and guaranteed that at some point in his tenure as manager he will bring the Weaver Cup of Ultimate Power to The Motor City, just as long as Robles doesn't turn into a Steinbrenner and yank him after half a season!
