LOS ANGELES (L.A.Times) - After two seasons of disappointing finishes within the mighty Lockwood Division, the Los Angeles Riots have finally brought a championship to the Southland! This was expected by Riots fans after the team went out and acquired star pitcher Greg Maddux, slugging catcher Todd Hundley, and newly crowned MVP Sendai Ashikaga!

Upon closing out the season in incredible fashion by winning their final ten games, the Riots were able to capture the Lockwood Division crown by eight games over the heavily favored New York Nukes. The Riots also held the best record in the Weaver League at 111-51!

During the Inferno League Championship, the Riots faced a formidable opponenet in the Amity White Sharks. Amity had won 127 games and won the Weaver Cup in 2001. However, after taking a dominating three games to none lead in the series, the Riots were able to dispose of the White Sharks in six games, pitting them against another former champion, the Belfast Bombers.

These Bombers from Belfast were coming off a long come from behind victoriy in the BLCS over Havana, a series which took seven games to decide; and that long series showed in Belfast's sluggish start in the Series. The mighty Riots went in and took three of the first four games in the series, but there was no quit in Belfast however. Much like they did against Havana in the BLCS, Belfast fought back and forced a Game Seven! By this point the magic had run out, though. There would be no three games to one comeback as the Bombers had done to Havana. In Game Seven the injured Greg Maddux made an unlikely appearance by starting the game and giving four solid innings to give his team a jump start, a jump that would spark the Riots a 3-2 extra inning victory and their first Weaver Series Championship!
