EDMONTON (AP): Some play for the thrill, others play for the glory. And then there are those who play for the highest bidder. It all started with Todd Walker, the first free agent in Weaver League history. This is his story.

Todd Walker began his career in 1998 at the age of 21 with the Belfast Bombers (now the Bora Bora Surfriders). He quickly developed into the premier second baseman in the league. As the Bombers leadoff hitter he set the table for the most potent offense in the league. A fan favorite, he put up big numbers every season and ended up winning the Blizzard League MVP in 2006. The Bombers were perennial Weaver Cup contenders, making the postseason in all but two of his seasons with the team and winning the Weaver Cup four times.

Walker and the Bombers had just come off their fourth championship in 2009 when, under the parameters of the league's new collective bargaining agreement, he became a free agent.

He of course signed a huge contract with the worst team in the history of the league.

Walker signed with the Edmonton Orcas, who had just set a Weaver League record for losses in 2009 with 145... which broke the previous record of 144 that they had set in 2008.

So after a season in Edmonton was Walker having any regrets? Did he really just take the money and run or was there more to the story? The Weaver Times caught up with Walker to set the record straight...

Weaver Times: So Todd, how are things in Edmonton?

Todd Walker: Cold.

WT: OK... Well how about compared to Belfast?

Walker: It was cold there too, Belfast ain't exactly Bora Bora ya know... well actually I guess they are now.

WT: Maybe I should rephrase the question.

Walker: You want to know how I like playing for a (crappy) team after playing for the Bombers all those years.

WT: Well yeah, pretty much.

Walker: I can sum it up for ya in two words: Cha CHING!

WT: There were reports that Belfast's offer was highly competitive with what you received from Edmonton.

Walker: Belfast showed me one number and Edmonton showed me another... Edmonton's number was bigger.

WT: You don't have any regrets when you look at the standings? No second thoughts seeing the Bombers play in the Weaver Series again last season?

Walker: CHA... CHING!

WT: I'll take that as a no.

Walker: You can take that as a HELL no! Besides, it's not like this team has no hope. Yeah, we've sucked for years and we suck again this year, and we'll probably suck for at least a few more years... What point was I trying to make?

WT: You were talking about how the Orcas aren't hopeless.

Walker: I was? Well we've got some good young pitching. Give it a few seasons, a few more free agent signings, young players gaining experience... Hey, did I mention that I'm having gold plated toilets installed at my estate today?
