NEW YORK (AP) - The Weaver League All-Star Game returned to New York City for the second time in five years for the 2001 All-Star Game. The game was also hosted by the Nukes in 1997, with the Inferno League winning 4-1. But it was the Blizzard League's turn to take a bite out of The Big Apple this time around, as the BL defeated the IL 7-4 to take a 3 games to 2 lead in the All-Star series.

The Inferno League got to the Blizzard League and Cy Young Award winner Christy Matthewson early. IL MVP Nap Lajoie singled to lead off the first, and Hank Aaron of the Amity White Sharks hit a towering blast to left center to give the IL an early 2-0 lead, and in the second solo homers by Jimmie Foxx of the Los Angeles Riots and Jim Thome of the Honolulu Volcanos gave the IL ahead 4-0! But the early power surge would provide all of the Inferno offense, and the BL began to take over in the fourth. Taking advantage of the ineffective IL pitching that followed a strong start by the Riots' Sandy Koufax, the BL scored seven unanswered runs to take home the victory. The BL stellar middle infield combo of Barry Larkin of the Nairobi Malaria and Rogers Hornsby of the Moscow Chaos provided much of the punch, each blasting two run homers. Carl Everett of the Belfast Bombers provided added lumber with a solo shot late in the game.
