NEW YORK (AP) - With two months still remaining in the Weaver League season, three of the four division races appear to be all but over. The Rio de Janerio Capybaras are running away with the Roehm, Belfast is Bombin' the Barnes, and Amity is... well... Amity is on pace to win 128 games this season ('nuff said)! Luckily for fans of Weaver League Baseball, one division race does look to provide much drama going into the stretch run. The New York Nukes currently lead the second place Los Angeles Riots by two and a half games in the Lockwood Division. Both teams have surged ahead of the Phoenix Devils, who have hit a serious post All-Star break slump after leading the division much of the first half of the season and are now in third place, five and a half games behind the Nukes (still closer than any of the second place teams in the other divisions).

With the Devils reeling as they have of late, it looks like the division race will be an old fashioned East Coast / West Coast grudge match between New York and Los Angeles! Of course in this league it seems a grudge match just isn't a grudge match without Nukes center fielder Ty Cobb in the middle! The last time these two teams played, the Riots' Ken Griffey Jr. hit a stand-up double to the gap in left-center field. Cobb fielded the ball and rather than casually throwing the ball back to the infield, he proceded to rifle the ball directly at Griffey, who at the time was leading Cobb in the IL Batting Race (Cobb currently leads Griffey 11 points, .372 to .361). Griffey was livid and argued with the umpire that Cobb should be thrown out, but Cobb claimed that he was just throwing the ball back to the pitcher, and that it wasn't his fault that Griffey was "in the way". Cobb was allowed to stay in the game. Between innings Griffey continued to argue with the umpire, and Cobb shouted, "Quit crying pretty boy, or next time I'll really give you something to cry about!" In his next at bat he was plunked in the butt by wild Riots' All-Timer Nolan Ryan! As usual, Cobb charged the mound and mayhem ensued. Watch out when these two teams get together again! They have three more meetings this season to settle the score: August 10-12 and September 14-16 out west in Los Angeles, and September 21-23 back east in New York City.
