NEW YORK (AP) - The Belfast Bombers have won the 2007 Weaver Series in five games over the New York Nukes! The title is the Bombers third overall, they also won the Weaver Series in 1999 and 2003.

Belfast dominated the Barnes division, tying the old league record of 127 wins (The Amity White Sharks broke their own record this season with 128 wins). However, there was concern as their pitching staff was riddled with injuries towards the end of the season. Luckily the injury bug did no affect their top duo of Mike Castro and Tim Adkinson, or their high octane offense.

In the Blizzard League Championship Series, the Bombers faced their old nemesis, the Rio de Janerio Capybaras. This was the fifth consecutive meeting in the BLCS between the two teams, with the Capybaras winning the last three. This time Rio was missing the key weapon in their arsenal, all-world pitcher Addie Joss. Joss went down with an inflamed elbow ligament in his throwing arm during the second to last week of the season and was lost for the playoffs. Even without Joss, Rio still managed to give the Bombers trouble, taking the series to the sixth game, but the Bombers were finally able to put down the Capys to end their three year streak of Weaver Series appearances. The Bombers were back!

In the Weaver Series, the Bombers faced the Inferno League Champion New York Nukes. The Nukes had just come back from a 3-1 deficit to the White Sharks in the ILCS to win the series, but their starting pitching staff was devestated by injuries during the series. Gone was two-thirds of their starting staff (18 game winner Hideo Nomo and 24 game winner Pete Schourek). However, the Nukes still had ace Pedro Martinez and 20 game winner Tom Gordon to throw at the Bombers.

The first game was ugly, as the Bombers blitzed the Nukes at IRA Field in Belfast. The final score was 15-5. The Nukes led Game Two 5-4 going into the eighth, but series hero Ryan Jones hit a two run homer in the bottom of the eighth off of reliever Marty Janzen to that resulted in a 6-5 victory for the Bombers. The series shifted to New York with Belfast in the drivers seat, but the Nukes jumped back into the series in Game Three, winning 7-4 to pull with a game of tying the series. Game Four went to extra innings tied 5-5. This time Ed DiBassi struck the fatal blow to the Nukes, blasting a two out two run homer in the top of the 10th that resulted in victory for the Bombers. Ryan Jones was once again the hero in the decisive Game Five. With New York leading 5-3 headed to the ninth, ex-Nuke Jones ended New York's title hopes by blasting a three run homer, putting the Bombers ahead for good. Tim Adkinson and Robb Nelson finished off the Nukes in the ninth, and the Bombers had clinched their third Weaver Cup of Ultimate Power! 2007 WEAVER SERIES BOXSCORES
