INFERNO IMBALANCE OF POWER

EDMONTON (AP) - The All-Star break is a good time to evaluate teams, players, and what they have done over half a season. If you haven't looked at the standings recently, maybe you should. There is a strange trend developing in the Inferno League: the Lockwood Division is routinely slaughtering teams from the Polanski Division. It's not even close! If the Inferno League were West Side Story (the musical), it'd open with a haunting tough guy number with the Lockwood gang snapping their fingers and intimidating audiences across the land. However, the Polanski gang's theme music would be that lilting love song Maria.

"Polanski, we're in a street gang called Polanski..." (To the tune of, "Maria, I just met a girl named Maria...")

Seriously, the only team not having his lunch money taken from him during recess is Bombay, since the Elephants have the only record in the Polanski Division with a winning percentage above .500. The only team not to have that same winning percentage in the Lockwood Division is Berlin. The difference is so bad that if the fifth place Terhan Knights with 46 wins, 39 losses, and 13.0 games behind the leader, were to switch divisions they would be in second place and only 4.0 games out of first!

Still aren't convinced? Here are some statistics that help explain this disparaging difference even further. Polanski team batting average is .258 while Lockwood boast a .269. Home runs are close as Polanski teams total 672 (112 average) compared to Lockwood's 747 (125 average), but there's still a difference. Strangely, RBI's are about the same with Polanski totaling 1985 (331 average) and Lockwood 2057 (341 average). Ah, but look at the pitching. Polanski teams have a combined 4.19 ERA while Lockwood teams are a half run less with a 3.74 ERA. However, the most significant number difference is team wins. Polanski has 230 total wins, which is 38 per team, while Lockwood has 282 total wins, a nice even 47 wins per team, 9 more per average than Polanski. You can almost hear that Lockwood division show tune now.
